Monte de los Almendros, a green oasis

After over 40 years of gradual development mostly by individual owners from more than 20 different countries Monte de los Almendros is now a mature, international residential area quite unlike the recently built mainly concrete urbanisations of virtually identical houses that have sprung up in recent years all over Spain. The mature gardens and protected green zones with an abundance of shrubs and trees have transformed what was formerly a rather barren hillside into a green oasis where birdsong can be heard constantly and where other wildlife including red squirrels have also made their homes.

And as an added bonus for their owners, the properties here enjoy some of the best views to be found anywhere. Depending on where a property is situated on this multi faceted hillside, the views include the snow topped mountains of the Sierra Nevada, the castle of Salobreña and of course the sea, with some villas having panoramic views encompassing all three!

There are currently 335 houses here with around 140 unbuilt plots although many of these belong to the owners of adjacent houses who have no intention of building on them. The total land area of Monte de los Almendros is around 67.56 hectares with some 6.82 hectares being protected green zones. In the centre of the community are the two communal swimming pools, tennis court and recreational area exclusively for the use of owners and their guests.

Amongst the other features and characteristics of this much admired residential area:

  • Truly international with owners from more than 20 countries although Spanish owners outnumber any other nationality

  • 4 full time maintenance workers
  • Individual post boxes with mail delivered each morning
